Today I screened videos for my world religions class.  Two on Islam and one on the Passover seder in Judaism.

I love watching these.  Each time I see them, or see a new one, I get a glimpse into the world…its beauty and its tragedy, practice and doctrine, people and their rituals.

There is so much that is so beautiful in this world.

And so much that could use some polishing.

But we have a good start!

I’m convinced of that.  I have to be.  I’m not sure I have any choice but to be convinced of that.  Things are such that they are, and if we believe that a better day is coming, then that enters our reality in some way.  If our mind takes in the hardness the world has to offer, and we soften it with our hearts, then maybe we have something that we can mold, shape, and, ultimately, form into something resembling peace.

And hey, even if we can’t have peace in the world, at least maybe we can try for a modicum of inner peace!

Religions often talk about compassion, peace, and understanding.  They preach about love and charity.  The give a nod to loving neighbors and strangers.

We have so far to go.

Let’s start with ourselves, live our beliefs to the max, and hope that living by example will start a really great trend.

Now THAT would be a really great video to show in class.
